AfricaRice at the Fourth Africa Rice Outlook, 25–27 July in Durban, South
Africa. The Africa Rice Outlook seeks to bring together the market’s biggest
rice buyers, sellers and traders. The objectives of the Fourth Africa Rice

Egyptian–Africa Forum on Seed Industry and Biotechnology
AfricaRice took an
active part in the Egyptian– Africa Forum on Seed Industry and Agricultural
Biotechnology, presenting its work in both these areas. The main objectives of
this Forum, held in Alexandria, Egypt on 24–26 July, were to find ways to:

Increase
collaboration both within and between the seed industry and agricultural

African Union and AfricaRice sign MoU to promote Africa’s rice sector
In recognition of
the growing importance of rice as a strategic crop for food security and
poverty reduction in Africa, the African Union Commission (AUC) and AfricaRice
signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to jointly promote the rice sector
in the continent through research, development, supportive policies and
capacity building.
The MoU focuses on
